Busy, Busy, Busy

Well things continue to be busy here at Shetland Catch. Not only are we still producing mackerel we have now started to produce Atlanto Scandia Herring.

Mackerel production has been steady throughout January and into February. We have had several good landings from the local boats, our Scottish suppliers and have had some very good landings from our Irish suppliers. Production has more than exceeded our expectations.

We still continue to get landings of mackerel from the Altaire and Enterprise, who are fishing off the South West coast of Ireland. Average size of mackerel started off at 450g to 500g average but has decreased slightly to 420g to 440g.

We have had herring landed by the local boat, Research lately. We also expect to see further landings from the Antares and Zephyr as well as landings from various Irish boats, big and small. The average size of herring to date is about 280g average and has been caught mainly along the Norwegian coast.

It is Shetland Catch policy to keep fish flowing continuously through the factory. That is why we are as busy in shipping as we are in production. We have a steady stream of reefers coming in to load fish to take either directly to our customers throughout the world or to our intermediate cold stores throughout Europe.

If you are interested in purchasing herring or mackerel at this time, please get in touch with a member of the sales team in order to discuss your requirements: sales@shetlandcatch.com.
