The herring has landed!!

Yes, our North Sea herring season started on the 13th August with a small landing from the MV Resolute. She was closely followed by her partner, MV Forever Grateful. Both vessels have been catching around the Orkney Islands, which are around 70 miles south of Lerwick. The average size has generally been around 250gms. These 2 vessels have almost finished their quota already, but we expect 2 of our other regular suppliers, MV Ocean Quest & MV Ocean Venture to start fishing soon.

We are producing a mixture of flaps, skinless fillets and whole round herring for our customers in the UK, Europe & Africa. Quantities are expected to be limited due to the lack of quota, but please contact us at sales@shetlandcatch.com to check availability.

We may also have the chance to buy NVG herring, which is currently being caught close to Iceland. Again, kindly contact us at sales@shetlandcatch.com to check prices and availability.

Shetland Catch–will again be represented at the World Food Moscow Show, 15–18 September, by Simon Leiper & John Angus. We will have a joint stand together with our Russian partners, Russian Fish Company. The stand is located in Pavilion 1, number A311, so please do visit us if you will attend the Show.

We hope to begin our mackerel season next month, when the Norwegian fleet start catching halfway between Lerwick and Bergen. Please let us know if you have an interest in mackerel so we can plan our production.

Congratulations to Norma Williamson who has recently passed a Background to Shipping Certificate, with merit, by The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Other members of the sales team will also undertake this course as part of the process to continually improve our customer service.

John Angus.
