We have now come to the end of very successful herring and mackerel season, with raw material supplies more than exceeding our expectations. Demand has been much higher than in previous years, so our sales team have been kept busy with negotiating sales and arranging delivery of goods.
As we like to be kept busy, we have set our sights on a new project. This comes in the form of Blue Whiting (Micromesistius Poutassou). Whilst blue whiting is a very valuable pelagic resource, it actually belongs to the cod family. It has mainly been used for reduction to fishmeal until recently. However, blue whiting is well suited for production for human consumption. The main problem with the raw material is that it has a short storage life.
The Mogsterhav landed blue whiting at Shetland Catch for human consumption at the beginning of March. Shetland Catch is working closely with the boats in order to ensure that the highest quality raw material is used in order to get the finished product as close to perfect as possible for our customers. It is the skippers’ opinions that the fish will be easier to work with in a couple of weeks when the fishing area is around St Kilda so we will begin production again then.
If you would be interested in finding out more information about blue whiting and how production is processing at Shetland Catch, then please contact a member of our sales team: sales@shetlandcatch.com.
On the subject of our sales team, we would like to say Congratulations to our Sales Executive Billy Finnie who has successfully passed his Advanced Certificate in Professional Key Account Management at the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Billy has learned a broad range of skills in order to help him and Shetland Catch to better serve the needs of our customers. Well done Billy!!
Here in the marketing department, we are busy getting ready for our annual visit the ESE in Brussels. Time goes so fast just now, it’s hard to believe it is almost a year since we were there last. Our stand will be in the same location as last year, Hall 5, Stand 645.
The main difference this year is that we will not be having our usual party on the Tuesday night. We decided to try something different this year. By leaving the Tuesday night clear we are able to do our own thing and meet with our individual customers, allowing us to spend more quality time with them.
Attending the exhibition this year is: John Goodlad – Chairman Simon Leiper – Managing Director John Angus – Sales Director Billy Finnie – Sales Executive Norma Williamson – Sales Executive Alan Leask – Sales Executive Jolene Garriock – Marketing Executive
To arrange a meeting with any of our members of staff please either contact them directly or use the email address mentioned above.
