The mackerel has landed...

The 2nd October dawned in Lerwick with the maiden landing by the MV Christina S, a fine new addition to the Scottish pelagic fleet for father & son, Ernie and Alan Simpson. They were regular suppliers to Shetland Catch with their previous vessel and we wish them all the very best of luck and good fishing with their new boat.

The MV Enterprise and MV Adenia were waiting to land after the MV Christina S and more vessels are going to sea over the coming days so we expect busy times ahead in the factory.

The freshness and quality is excellent with the fishing grounds only 6-8 hours away from our factory. There is no red feed in the fish.

Prices and demand for mackerel are high just now and the first sales have been made to our Eastern European customers. Of course, we're always open to discuss sales possibilities with customers in other markets so please contact us at sales@shetlandcatch.com if you have any interest to buy mackerel.

Norwegian mackerel catching has decreased in recent days as more vessels have reverted to herring fishing.

The average size of the mackerel is smaller this year compared to last October. There are equal quantities of 300-500gms and 400-600gms being produced meaning we can spread our sales over more markets.

Simon Leiper and John Angus attended the World Food Show in Moscow at the end of September. They were both extremely busy speaking with existing and new buyers and several deals were concluded. Special thanks must go to Elena Kalininskaya who designed the fantastic stand and arranged the lively after-show party!!
